Evolutionary is a high school rock band from Confederation Secondary School in Val Caron. Confederation has an enrolment of 650 students and does not offer any specialty programs such as performing arts, although they proudly refer to themselves as 'The Real School of Rock!!!'.
Evolutionary is built around a 24 piece group of young people 4-vocalists, a 5 piece rhythm section, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 2 alto saxes, and 4 tenor saxes. Performances include a high energy choreographed show with exciting light display including laser, strobe, orbitron, intelligent lighting and a smoke machine. A 16-member stage crew provides the technical support for this group of musicians. The band members range in age from 13-19 years and are in grades 9-12.
This is Evolutionary's 26th year in existence. Every year, all students must audition and complete an interview in order to be considered for a place in this band. Successful applicants must sign a year-long contract. Students in Evolutionary receive a high school music credit for their participation. Evolutionary is completely self-supporting. All expenses for transportation, and purchase and repair of musical instruments and equipment are covered by student fund-raising and sponsorship.
Evolutionary live show program includes: A selection of top 40 hits of today including such artists as Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, U2, Nickelback, AC/DC, Green Day, Def Leppard, Black Crowes, Van Halen, and many others.
