The Bang

A Little ditty about Dan MacDonald & “The Bang”: Dan MacDonald is no stranger when it comes to local talent. From playing gigs at J&Ks Video Arcade, to opening for Ted Nugent at the Sudbury arena and playing every bar in the city and across Canada - the latest triumph came thanks to a contest to find that “right” song for a newly developed “reality show” pilot put on by Laurier Falldien, owner and tattoo artist of Canadian Red Dragon. And the winner, as voted by the fans, was “Tattoo Me” by “The Bang” one of Sudbury’s own. Local boys are Dan MacDonald, vocals and acoustic guitar along with Shawn McBain also on acoustic guitar, Craig Giles on bass, Will Rennehan on slide guitar and Cory Kottick on drums.

Another Story

Another Story knows a little something about ups and downs. Scott Mitchell and Mike Clarke started playing together in 2001 and were joined by Rye Dog, along with a string of great guitarists, singers and just about anything else they could get on stage, in that time. During the evolution of the band, Scott took on the task of writing lyrics for their original tunes, and admits that all the inspiration for the lyrics comes from events in his life. As many musicians will attest: keeping a band together and happy is a difficult challenge - but even through all the difficult times and line-up changes, they continue to make music both honest and creative.

From Far Apart

From Far Apart has been a long time coming, and will be even longer leaving. Neil Chamberlain and Justin Tugwood began playing guitar in 1994, and right from the beginning their common interest in music and guitar brought them together. After a few years they end up in Ottawa, and while there, they formed Not Close Enough. After a few more moves and years, they made another move to Sudbury, where they met Richard Bradley and things fell into place. FFA will continue to tour, write and record for as long and far as the music will take them. If their dedication and work ethic are any indication, this should be a long time.

Trixx

Consisting of Danny Cole on Lead Guitar, Brad Tegman on Bass, Dan Howard on Drums and Jessica Crowe on vocals, Trixx came together almost a year ago, with each member bringing a different flavor to the mix, generating a new sound unlike anything they were used to. Taking inspiration from contemporary rock to the classic sounds of the 70’s and 80’s and even a little bit of hair metal, they soon moved beyond covering the greats to carving out their own niche with original material. Trixx are well on our way to discovering their own unique style of writing and performing and are well on the way to bringing their own brand of rock to masses, not only across Canada but into other countries as well.

Konflit Dramatik

The most fascinating aspect of Konflit Dramatik is its capacity for transforming itself without betrayal or denial of its roots. Konflit Dramatik was born in Sudbury in 1997 when singer and keyboardist Christian Berthiaume and musician friends gave life to this group, and quickly stood out. Joined by Josée Poulin on violin, Shawn Arseneau on bass and Cory Lalonde on drums, the group withdrew to a quiet place, an old Sudbury morgue, that the group had resuscitated and metamorphosed into a studio, where some astonishing music was born.

Stage 3-1

Stage 3-1 is one of the original video game music cover bands to emerge in the last 5 years, finding early success on the renowned Newgrounds website. Unique in that that they solely cover music from the original NES console, they differ also from their video game cover band counterparts by incorporating original songs, as inspired by these very same NES games.

High Deafinition

Formed in 2002, the 3 members that make up High Deafinition are: Drummer James Yorke, Guitarist/ Vocalist Thomas Yorke and Bassist/ Vocalist Gilles Beaulieu. This young three piece band comprised of members whose ages are 15, 17 and 19 are not to be confused with other kids the same age, living on your block, playing music in their garage. This band has a serious work ethic; “wasted youth” is not a term you would use to describe these three extremely talented and dedicated individuals.

Black Friday

Black Friday started out New Year’s Day 2005, and in the past few years have come a long way. In the earlier days the five piece band played lighter radio tunes but soon morphed into a four piece which now lays down a bombardment of old Sabbath, and other heavier favourites you won't hear from other bar bands. Black Friday spent 12 months honing their skills in the basement before hitting the bar scene in a local battle of the bands competition, and after enduring a three month elimination, they exceeded expectations and won the overall title as The Falcon's Ultimate Band Challenge Winners. If you’re looking for a unique and heavy sound, Singer Darcy Lacoursiere, Guitarist Denis Chapperbone, Bassist Tim Palace, and Drummer Rob Rocca have just the right mix for you.
